Y. K. Bae Corp. is introducing new approaches to space exploration and "green" energy generation. After decades of research and development, Dr. Bae, the founder of Y.K. Bae Corp, had invented and discovered new ways of generating and utilizing photons for these endeavors.
Based on our patented photon thrust amplification technology, we are developing the next-generation propulsion systems for precision controlling spacecraft formation, propellantless precision maneuvering satellites, and propelling rockets to unprecedented speeds that are necessary for sending humans to stars. Based on extension of this technology, Photonic Railways that will one day enable commuting between the earth and the moon, asteroids, planets and exoplanets are proposed recently.
Based on our emerging science and technology on a new quantum state, Metastable Innershell Molecular State (MIMS), in highly compressed matter discovered by Dr. Bae and his colleagues at Brookhaven National Lab, which can be used for generating super-intense soft x-ray photons at unprecedentedly high efficiency, we are developing a wide range of applications from semiconductor lithography to inertial fusion.

Dr. Bae is the founder of the Y.K. Bae Corp. He is the inventor of the patented Photonic Laser Thruster (PLT) and Photonic Railway. He is the co-discoverer of He2- and Metastable Innershell Molecular State (MIMS).
After obtaining a Ph.D. in physics from UC Berkeley in 1982, he worked at SRI International, where he led research projects related with laser and particle beams, antimatter physics, high energy density materials, and nanoparticles. In 1984, he and his colleagues discovered the self-neutralizing He2- molecular ion. He and his colleagues pioneered and patented the application of C60, a nanoparticle, in 1993. In 1994, he and his colleagues discovered anomalous signals at the Brookhaven National Lab, when Si targets were impacted and compressed by nanoparticles at hypervelocity (v>100 km/s). However, the nature of the anomalous signals was not understood over 15 years.
In 2008, Dr. Bae reanalyzed, successfully interpreted the Brookhaven data and discovered that the anomalous signals originated from a new molecular quantum state, Metastable Innershell Molecular State (MIMS). MIMS is predicted to exist in highly compressed matters at inner cores of large planets, such as Jupiter or Saturn. Dr. Bae discovered that the nanoparticle impact accelerates MIMS optical decay by orders of magnitude via Dicke Superradiance so that it can be useful for generating super-intense x-ray beams for a wide range of applications from semiconductor lithography to inertial nuclear fusion.
In the mid 1990's, at the Air Force Rocket Propulsion Laboratory, Dr. Bae led research projects that investigated various advanced propulsion concepts including cryogenic chemical rocket concepts and antimatter propulsion concepts. To pursue advanced propulsion and energy research and development, Dr. Bae founded the Bae Institute in 2002, and the Y.K. Bae Corp. in 2007. Recently, he worked with ATK Mission on Directed Energy applications, especially in the area of High Energy Laser (HEL) target interaction.
Dr. Bae has over 60 scientific and technology publications and over 200 presentations in US and international conferences and institutes. He has two patents.
